Pakistan to compete in FIFAe 2026 season

Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) President Syed Mohsen Gilani has confirmed that Pakistan will participate in the FIFAe 2026 Season, marking a significant step toward expanding the country’s footprint in competitive esports.
The announcement signals the federation’s intent to ensure Pakistan’s representation across emerging global sporting platforms, particularly in digital football competitions that continue to grow in popularity worldwide.
“It will provide a boost to esports talent in Pakistan, especially those interested in football gaming,” Gilani said, underscoring the federation’s commitment to tapping into the country’s rapidly expanding gaming community.
Pakistan will compete in the ‘eFootball Console’ category, one of the three titles featured in the FIFAe 2026 Season. The competition serves as a pathway to the FIFAe World Cup 2026, scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia later this year.
Strategic Expansion into Esports
The move reflects a broader strategic vision by the PFF leadership to modernise football governance and engage younger audiences. Esports has emerged as a multi-billion-dollar industry globally, and football-based gaming competitions now offer nations an alternative stage for international recognition.
By entering FIFAe, Pakistan not only aims to compete but also to develop structured pathways for gaming talent — an area that has largely remained untapped at the national federation level.
Gilani confirmed that the PFF will soon initiate a nationwide activation campaign and open trials to identify the country’s top eFootball players. “We are looking for the top gaming talent to come forward during the national activation and trials,” he said.
Call for National Partnership
To execute the programme effectively, the PFF is seeking a national partner to support the activation and selection process. Interested organisations will be required to submit an expression of interest along with a detailed partnership plan outlining their strategy for trials, promotion, and logistical support.
This collaborative approach suggests that the federation is looking to integrate private-sector expertise, particularly from gaming, technology, or corporate sponsors, to ensure professional execution of the trials and representation process.
Eligibility Criteria and Selection Pathway
The federation has outlined clear eligibility requirements for aspiring participants:
- Players must be at least 16 years of age at the time of registration.
- They must hold a registered FIFAe Player Account on FIFA.GG.
- Applicants must not be under any active sanctions from the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS), KONAMI-sanctioned tournaments, or any FIFAe competitions.
Selected players will represent Pakistan in the official FIFAe 2026 Season, with the ultimate goal of qualifying for the FIFAe World Cup.
A New Avenue for International Representation
Pakistan’s entry into FIFAe comes at a time when traditional football structures in the country are undergoing rebuilding efforts. While on-field football continues to face structural and developmental challenges, esports presents an opportunity for immediate international participation without the logistical and infrastructural limitations of conventional sport.
Moreover, Pakistan has a large youth population with increasing access to digital platforms and competitive gaming environments. Harnessing that demographic advantage could open new doors for global recognition.
The FIFAe World Cup in Saudi Arabia will serve as the season’s climax, and for Pakistan, the 2026 edition could mark the beginning of a sustained esports presence under the federation’s banner.
With national trials yet to be announced, attention now shifts to how effectively the PFF can organise and promote the selection process — and whether Pakistan’s emerging gaming talent can translate digital skill into international success.
