The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly considering the implementation of a new policy following observations of players engaging in interactive space sessions on X (formerly Twitter), responding to fan inquiries. The move aims to regulate players’ activities on social media platforms and align them with the conditions outlined in their central contracts.

Sources reveal that the PCB is in the process of drafting regulations that will govern players’ behavior on social media to prevent any potential issues in the future. The International Cricket Department is set to play a pivotal role in reviewing the situation and facilitating discussions with players and their representatives.

Recent instances include popular cricketers like Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi participating in question-and-answer sessions on X, offering fans a glimpse into their personal and professional lives. During his session on February 1, Babar Azam shared insights into various aspects of his career, with teammate Mohammad Rizwan unexpectedly joining in and discussing Babar’s marriage plans.

Similarly, during his session on February 4, Shaheen Afridi mentioned plans to have a discussion with pacer Mohammad Amir regarding his potential return to international cricket for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

The PCB’s move to formalize guidelines for players’ social media interactions reflects the increasing significance of digital platforms in fostering direct connections between players and fans. The new policy is expected to strike a balance between players’ engagement on social media and maintaining professionalism in line with the board’s standards.
