Race 1 — Maiden: Messi (9-0), my favourite, won outright as an upset over the book’s selection Lady Sareena — a clean vindication of top-weight logic in maiden company. Sea of Class (book’s place) ran second, and Miss Coca Cola (both book’s and my fluke) completed the frame in third. Remarkably, all three of my selections landed in the frame. Lady Sareena, the book’s favourite at 8-12, was unplaced — and this marks a significant turnaround from the pattern that has haunted the weight-based system all meeting: on 900m, in a maiden field, the 9-0 top weight won convincingly.
Race 2 — Division VI & VII: Chotta Multani (9-0), my favourite against the book’s King Asia, won decisively — the second consecutive race where my top-weight call defeated the book’s form pick. Bilal One ran a surprise second, and Sosig Go (my fluke) came third. King Asia, the book’s favourite at 8-10, was unplaced. This is Chotta Multani’s third podium appearance of the Summer Meeting and its first win from top weight — the handicapper’s confidence at 9-0 was fully justified.
Race 3 — The August Cup: The most dramatic race of the day and the most analytically striking of the entire meeting. Classic Mystery won the August Cup outright — beating Pakiza (book’s and my place) into second and sending Awan Choice (9-4, agreed favourite by both the book and me) to third. Classic Mystery has now won two named cup races at this meeting from the fluke position. This horse is the defining story of the LRC Summer Meeting 2026: consistently designated a fluke, consistently winning at the highest level. At 7-8 conceding a remarkable 20 pounds to Awan Choice, its two cup victories represent the most emphatic evidence yet that form and pace on 900m are capable of overcoming virtually any weight concession.
Race 4 — Division IV & V: The cleanest result of the card. Bellatrix won as the agreed favourite for both the book and me — finally delivering the win that its sustained frame performances throughout the meeting had been promising. Fatteh Prince (book’s place) ran second as expected. The only surprise was Soan Pari completing the frame in third over my fluke Fatteh Prince — a minor variation in the lower positions that doesn’t diminish the quality of the top-two call.
Race 5 — Division VI: Xena (book’s favourite) won as expected. The surprise was the order of Black Fire and Piyari — Piyari ran second while Black Fire (my favourite) came third. The book’s full frame was almost perfectly covered: Xena won, True My Love narrowly missed, Black Fire (book’s fluke) framed in third. My reversal of Black Fire and Xena cost the winning call but both horses were in the frame as I predicted.
The August Cup conclusion: This was the best day for systematic prediction across the entire Summer Meeting — 2 of 5 favourites correct for both the book and me, three of five frames substantially covered, and Classic Mystery’s August Cup victory cementing its status as the horse of the meeting. The broader lesson: 900m racing at LRC rewards pace and recency of form, but top-weight logic is not dead — it won cleanly in Races 1 and 2 today when the fields were correctly structured. The meeting’s defining anomaly remains Classic Mystery, which has made the fluke designation almost meaningless for cup races on this circuit.
